Mover Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the application process take?

A. Depending on available opportunities, the process can take as little as 7-10 days. The process consists of the following 3 steps:

  1. Complete the application
  2. Upload pictures of your vehicle & Driver License, insurance, registration/inspection along with expiration dates
  3. Complete background check

Then you’ll be out on the road making $$!

Do you have a helper?

Yes, with the items often being large, we require two people on the job to ensure they are removed safely without damaging the home.

Can I just use a pickup?

If you are using a truck, then at least a 10ft trailer must be attached. Some of our scheduled pick ups often will fill up a truck bed. With the help of a trailer it will allow you to get all of the items in one pick up.

What equipment will I need?

Besides your full-size truck or cargo van, you will need a minimum set of equipment for running:

  • At least 1 – waterproof tarps with tie down grommets (8’ x 10’)
  • 4 – ratchet tie downs (27’ x 3”) in good working condition
  • Adjustable bungee cargo net (36” x 47” or greater)
  • 3 – quilts or moving blankets
  • Various sized single bungee cords
  • Furniture dolly and/or collapsible dolly (hand truck)
  • Stretch wrap

Other items may be necessary. You will need to purchase these items and maintain them in your vehicle when you’re available for PICKUP runs.

How am I insured?

Your personal insurance is the primary protection for you and your vehicle. You should check with your insurance company to ensure that you are adequately covered to operate your vehicle as an independent business owner. You and your insurance will be responsible for repairing any damage to your vehicle, just as if you were loaning it to a friend. In addition to the insurance you carry, MOVESTAT carries excess coverage in case of a major accident as well as cargo insurance for the items being delivered.

Who is responsible for the customer’s goods while they are in my pickup truck?

You are primarily responsible. You should ensure that all goods are safely stowed and secured in your vehicle before driving. The goods are insured for replacement or repair.

What about big or heavy items?

Customers are alerted that big items, heavy items, or both require them to arrange for loading and unloading assistance. Do not attempt to lift, load or move something you are not confident is safe without help from customer or their agent. If they have not arranged for help, and you cannot safely accomplish the task, please let the customer know that you need to contact support for additional help. Additional charges will apply. You or the customer can also cancel a run at that time. Customer may incur a cancellation fee.

What does it mean to be an Independent Contractor?

Instead of being a MOVESTAT employee, you are classified as an independent business owner (1099). This means that you have complete latitude for how and when you work and you collect revenues for your business in exchange for the work you do. MOVESTAT is your marketing and technology partner. At the end of the year, you will receive a statement of your earnings from MOVESTAT. We do not withhold taxes from your pay, so you receive 100% of your earnings. You are responsible for the payment of all federal, state, and local taxes. You should contact a tax professional to understand what it means to be paid on 1099 status.

What happens if I get in an accident with someone’s goods in my truck?

If you have an accident and it is an emergency, please call 911 first. If it is not an emergency, or once the emergency has been managed and it’s safe, contact Accident Support for next steps. Contact MoveStat support about how to complete the delivery.

How much money can I make?

You will make a minimum of $30 per run and can make up to $60 per hour, plus tips and you keep 100% of your tips!

How and when do I get paid?

We transfer funds to your bank account the next business day after you complete runs. Our goal is to get you paid as fast as possible!
